Purple Urkle is an indica strain with a flavor profile as complex as its genetics and history. Purple Urkle is perhaps one of the most famous Indica strains around yet it’s origins are still mostly a mystery. This California strain can be traced back to Mendocino Purps or Grandaddy Purple, stemming from the famous Emerald Triangle region in the north of California.

Purple Urkle is a clone-only variety of cannabis that surfaced on the scene in the 1980’s, straight from the West Coast, and instantly loved by many indica-lovers. Growers in the Emerald Triangle tend to be very secretive about their buds, which is understandable. Purple Urkle is no exception to this rule. Not much is known about this Nor-Cal strain except that it’s a heavy hitter with amazing flavors and intoxicating effects. Its berry-like flavored bud has been noted as a fairly powerful smoke, which is why it is so popular among the connoisseurs and veterans – if you are a fan of this sweet flower, chances are, you have good taste. Lab tests indicate larger percentages of the terpene myrcene contribute to Purple Urkle’s earthy, musky aromas, while the presence of alpha-pinene counteract the terpene’s more sedative effects. Users compliment Purple Urkle for its berry flavors and its impressive THC content, which clocks in between 17-22%, depending on grow conditions.

It’s effects, taste and smell are fairly consistent with most purple strains of marijuana when grown and cured properly. Purple Urkle has a sweet and skunky smell generally containing the aromas of tropical fruit, grapes, fruity pebbles and skunk. As with many heavy Indica strains, it’s effects can be quite lethargic and relaxing making it an excellent strain for insomnia and anxiety. It is also used regularly for pain management and as an appetite stimulant. This strain is best consumed during the evening due to its tendency to cause consumers to feel lethargic and sleepy. As with any new marijuana strain, its recommended to start with a lower dosage to avoid overmedication, especially with novice smokers.

Purple Urkle is recommended for more experienced growers, although it isn’t very hard to learn how to cultivate this plant. Much attention must be paid to the number of nutrients this plant should consume, and it should be noted that this strain yields higher when cultivated indoors rather than outdoors. Purple Urkle grown indoors can be expected to yield an average of around 18 ounces per square meter. This plant usually takes around 8 to 9 weeks to flower and be ready for harvest. When raised outdoors, this strain prefers a warm and sunny environment it can thrive in. Purple Urkle may take a little longer to grow outdoors and can be expected to be ready for harvest around the middle of October. This hybrid can be expected to yield around 9 ounces of bud per plant.
