Pre-98 Bubba Kush Strain Review

Spring is in the air and so and so is a special strain review.

This week I took a little trip down memory lane as I was able to get my hands on a heavy indica strain I haven’t tasted in years, the Pre-98 Bubba Kush. Now the Pre-98  is one of those legendary cuts that you truly can only find via clone. There are Pre-98 Bubba Kush seeds available online but trust me, I’ve popped 100’s of seeds to never to find this actual lineage. Some believe that  the Pre-98 shares lineage with strains such as Hindu Kush but at the end of the day, she’s an enigma that deserves to be respected.

A friend of mine who is also a grower and connoisseur named “Dr. D” brought me a sample pack and inside this mysterious satchel was a baggie labeled “98 BK.” Upon seeing the 4 symbols and smelling the nugs, I sent a text to my friend to confirm if this was what I thought it was and less than a minute later his response came in, “Yes Sir…Pre-98 Bubba Kush.” After catching my breath with excitement I was ready to take her for a test drive so I pulled out my mini Toro bubbler and prepared for takeoff.

With the Pre-98 Kush, there is no mistaking her smell. Heavy Pine and Coffee notes overtake you upon breaking her up but it’s the deep skunk notes that take you back…if she’s the real deal. Light green and coated in a thick resin, the Pre-98 not only stinks from two blocks away but is also gorgeous to look at.

Upon inhale I was hit deep in the chest and I could taste the thick coffee and skunk flavors on my palette. We were finally back together after so many years and boy had I missed her. My eyes after exhale were heavy and the stone was mind-numbing. I suffer from debilitating back pain as well as anxiety and the Pre-98 Kush gives me the relief I so much search for in order to be able to function these days. Talk about relief. I was able to do two loads of laundry and prepare my super soil to get it ready for outdoor growing coming up in a few months, so this was definitely the type of strain I find to be extremely medicinal and perfect for what I need.

Overall this sample of Pre-98 Bubba Kush was one of the finest I’ve had since the early 2000s. Potency wise I had to give her a 9.5 as she hit all the bases when it came to pain relief and stoniness. As for flavor, this one was up there with anything I’ve tasted in the past few years so I gave her a 9.7. At the end of the day, this was a Cup winner that deserved to be in a competition and I just feel lucky I had a chance to sample her.
