Whether you’re an athlete, recovering from an injury, or simply looking to really lean into your yoga poses, adding a little bit of cannabis might be a welcome addition to your fitness routine.

Having a wide range of motion is critically important to developing healthy muscle tone and preventing early degeneration of joints. If you’re anything like most people, you may have one side of your body that’s more flexible than the other; this is one of the most common causes of injury. This lack of alignment can also extend to bones, and without attention, can reduce range of motion and mess up posture.

Feeling Stiff?

If you’re having a bit of trouble with your stretches, light marijuana use may help to increase the effectiveness of your workouts. Pot relaxes muscles, and depending on the strain, can make people feel more in touch with their bodies. It also serves to increase dopamine with the right amount, which will not only deepen stretches, but make any exercise feel fantastic. It’s important to find the right balance, however, because too much can work in reverse to inhibit motor function and dopamine receptors, which will make you less sensitive to chemicals that make you feel good over time.

Although cannabis can help, it’s not an end-all solution, just like one heating pad won’t completely get rid of your cramps. When used in conjunction with other treatments, it can be super helpful. In case you didn’t know, most emotional responses come from your abdomen, especially the muscles that connect your legs and your spine. These are the muscles that tend to clench and cause people’s backs to go out, which occurs most frequently during times of increased stress or spending hours sitting, if you have a desk job. These muscles are called the psoas muscles, and benefit from stretches. Having psoas muscles that release easily is likely to make you feel generally more grounded and relaxed.  It will also help with hip, back, and knee pain.

Get Started

The best way to start is to have a little bit of Indica and a foam yoga mat. If you have a foam roller, they can be very effective in using body weight to work out soreness or stiffness. Because Indica tends to calm the mind as well, it’s likely that your concentration may increase to enhance your extensions. If you plan on doing yoga, do it carefully, because weed can affect balance. One or two hits should be enough to significantly help to deepen your stretches and help to develop strength, reduce soreness, and increase your range of movement.
