Portland, Oregon is full of diversity, culture, nature, and plenty of weed. Cannabis was legalized for recreational use in July 2016 for adults 21 and older. While locals and visitors can’t consume cannabis in public, there is some wiggle room, especially if you’re discreet and responsible about it. Downtown Portland has tons of bars, restaurants, shopping, and other fun stuff you can do while you’re slightly stoned.

Downtown Portland may be a bike-friendly, but it’s safer to take the public transportation system to get around and avoid any accidents while high. 1. Powell’s Books

Powell’s Books is a stoner book fiend’s dream. As the world’s largest independent bookstore, you’re bound to find books on nearly any subject, no matter how esoteric. You can’t miss its iconic facade with a bright sign gleaming its name. You could spend hours going through the rows upon rows of massive bookcases. Grab a used book for cheap or get a rare or out-of-print edition. Powell’s is the perfect location to pick up a quirky souvenir.

2. Donuts

Sooner or later, the munchies are going to set in. Portland is home to a bountiful selection of farm-to-table restaurants, food carts, and ethnic restaurants. If you’re like me, however, you’ll go straight for the delectable donuts. If you get a chance to visit Voodoo Doughnut during times when the line is short, make sure to grab a few fresh donuts. They’ve even got vegan options. Stop by Blue Star Donuts for seasonal and vegan donuts and order some water-soluble CBD in your coffee while you’re at it.

3. Washington Park

Portland’s historic Washington Park houses an abundance of fun things to do including the International Rose Test Garden, the Japanese Garden, and Hoyt Arboretum. Portland’s Japanese Garden is especially peaceful. It’s considered one of the best Japanese gardens in the world outside of Japan. Trip out on the waterfalls, streams, and raked gravel gardens. Don’t miss Hoyt Arboretum, a living museum of thousands of tree species. 

4. Lan Su Chinese Garden

If you’re a fan of meditative and breathtaking spaces, you’ll love enjoying your high in Portland’s Lan Su Chinese Garden. This world-renowned garden was built by Chinese artisans from Portland’s sister city Suzhou. Explore every nook and cranny of the gardens as you revel in the impeccable architecture, impressive design, and bright foliage. Lan Su’s central downtown location makes it very easy to get to.

5. Watch a Movie and Drink Beer

After a microdose of cannabis, head to one of many Portland theater pubs where you can imbibe in beer, wine, or cocktails as well as tasty food options. Living Room Theaters in Downtown serves up gourmet food to your seat while you watch one of many independent and foreign films. Head to Cinema 21 for even more obscure films. Portland has no shortage of movie theaters that let you sip on your favorite alcoholic beverage.

Downtown Portland has many fun and exciting activities for cannabis-friendly locals and tourists. If you have a designated driver, make sure to explore beyond downtown. Portland has a large amount of natural wonder including Mount Hood and Columbia River Gorge. Consume responsibly, follow the laws, and you’ll have a great time exploring all Portland has to offer.
