The Godfather strain is a super dank hybrid strain I picked up from my local Hollywood dispensary. This bud presents itself in brightly colored, pungent smelling nugs that just beg to come home with you. The Godfather strain is sure to satisfy the most veteran of smokers with its high THC content and long-lasting effects.

Extremely popular in Southern California, this strain won Best Indica at the 2013 High Times’ Cannabis Cup and continues to be well-loved today. There are several types of Godfather OG out there, with the most prominent resulting from a cross between Alpha OG and XXX OG. Other variations include crossing OG Kush with Grand Daddy Purple, aka GDP, and a three-way combination of Bubba Kush, LA Confidential, and Granddaddy Purple. OG Kush is the inception of many great OG strains such as Tahoe OG, Saturn OG, and Crown OG.

For many users, it’s love at first sight, as Godfather OG has dense nugs with mostly orange and a few purple toned pistils, as well as a thick coating of trichomes. Overall the nugs aren’t particularly large and range from small to medium sized nugs. The bud is fluffy and only a little dense. It is slightly sticky as well but relatively easy to break up with the hands. A grinder isn’t necessary with this bud but it’s recommended for consumers who like to collect kief for later projects. The smell is fantastic, with pungent pine and earth notes hitting your nose. It tastes very similar to its natural aroma, with hints of grape coming through to add a nice fruitiness.

The Godfather strain boasts a THC content that’s been measured as high as 28%. The effects of The Godfather strain leaves consumers feeling sleepy, relaxed, euphoric, happy, and hungry. Munchies are a given for this strain so be sure to have snacks on hand. Revered in the medical cannabis community, Godfather OG is excellent for relieving stress and anxiety, as you become so relaxed that you don’t have a care in the world. Due to its deep sedative effects, many who suffer from insomnia also appreciate how well it works to aid in a good night’s sleep. Some other medical uses for this strain are depression, pain, and muscle spasms. I felt relatively stress-free and relaxed during and after consumption of the Godfather strain.

The typical flowering period for this strain is 8-9 weeks, which is fairly standard for indica varieties. This plant thrives well both indoors and outdoors. Novice growers will be glad to know that it’s easy to cultivate this plant at home, making it super accessible for all types of consumers.

Los Angeles cannabis consumers both medical and recreational can use apps like Weedmaps and Eaze to find the nearest dispensary or delivery service that carries the Godfather strain. The particular dispensary I went to had a deal on this top shelf strain 7g for $40. This strain is best used as a nighttime strain but more experienced smokers will have no issues using the Godfather strain throughout the day.
