Trying out a brand new strain is always an exciting venture. Like Forrest Gump said, “You neva know what yer gonna get.” More often than not I’m not exactly blown away by most newer strains as I’m old and have an atrocious tolerance level. But every so often, I’ll get lucky and that was the case recently with the Middlefork Shatter I sampled from Omega Concentrates. Now, from what I’ve been able to find, the Middlefork strain is a Sativa-dominant hybrid that was bred from two Dutch Treat plants in Washington State. It is well known in the Evergreen State for having a very potent buzz with a pungent taste. I’m not usually a shatter guy but this was Omega’s top-shelf line and the extract had the look of straight fire and at $30USD a gram I decided to pull the trigger. I would describe the color of the Middlefork Shatter as clear golden amber glass. As I put my light up to it I thought I was looking at some fossilized tree sap from Jurassic Park. Once opened, the smell out of the package was lemony with notes of diesel and a slight hint of cherry. I wouldn’t describe it as extremely pungent but it was noticeable.

I was ready to take her for a spin and decided to use my Toro Glass Bubbler and Quartz Banger. I was able to take a tiny piece of the shatter and rub it between my fingers to get it pliable. I then placed it on my nail and once it touched the quartz we had lift-off. One massive hit in and I had the forehead sweats going strong from head to toe. I felt like I was floating for the first few minutes and like a rookie, went in for a second rip which I do not recommend. After my second dab, I was way beyond stoned. Now, it wasn’t a couch-lock stone but high to the point where I lost my ATM card in the ATM machine that night and asked a girl with Pink hair if it was her natural color. It was a high that had me laughing all evening and didn’t put me to sleep or make me tired. But be warned, I was overcome with the super munchies a couple of hours later and ate a large pizza and a whole bag of Milano cookies for dinner. As for the flavor, I liked the lemon and diesel notes with hints of berries it delivered. It wasn’t extremely pungent but it was definitely better than most extracts on the market.

In terms of flavor and aroma, the Middlefork Shatter had decent flavor but It could’ve had more taste to her so I scored it an 8.4/10. When it came to strength and potency however, I absolutely enjoyed this hybrid fade and felt it was closer to a 50/50 vs. being a Sativa Dominant strain. In the end, I gave it a 9.5/10 in terms of its heady stone and I would definitely recommend grabbing some once it hits your neck of the woods.
