Gelato is a popular hybrid strain that rose to stardom by boasting real results with a great balance of effects. The Gelato strain is a strain I purchased from a delivery service here in LA called LA Green Run. Gelato can be a pricey strain but it’s worth every penny if you’re a cannabis enthusiast. Gelato is everything I want in an indica like calming and relaxing effects, while not being too heavy for me to go about my day in a productive manner if consuming during the day. At night, the Gelato strain is perfect to help those with insomnia or if you just want a little extra help getting to sleep one night.
The Gelato weed strain (also referred to as “Larry Bird”) is another tantalizing hybrid cannabis strain from Cookie Fam Genetics, following in the footsteps of its parents Sunset Sherbet and Thin Mint GSC. We’ve reviewed Sunset Sherbet on the blog before and I generally enjoyed my experience with that bright, citrusy strain. Gelato is no exception. This Bay Area, California native gets its name from the fruity, dessert-like aroma, a common genetic thread among the Cookie family.
The bud is very soft and fluffy. It is super easy to break up with your hands but is still sticky enough to hold its integrity rather than crumble to dust between your fingertips. The nugs are quite large, ranging in size from large, conical little trees to popcorn nugs. The bud is light green with dark green highlights, featuring sparing placed orange pistils and a shy sprinkling of kief. It’s not very sticky but does leave your fingertips a bit tacky if breaking up the bud with your hands. This bud would easily pass through even the cheapest grinder.
Like it’s namesake, the Gelato strain goes down super smoothly. It produces a calming and relaxing high that is both physical and mental. The strain’s positive effects include filling its consumer with happiness, creativity, relaxation and euphoria. It provides a sense of aversion to negativity and rational thinking that I absolutely love. It makes anything unable to faze you. Physical relaxation comes on strong, but many find themselves still mentally agile enough to stay productive and creative when enjoying Gelato during the day. I can attest the creativity is strong with this one. I’d say the creativity portion lasted for approximately 45 minutes, this includes during consumption and post-consumption. The heavy indica effects kicked in about halfway through that time but only lasted about 20-30 minutes. Times may vary depending on your tolerance level and how cannabis tends to affect you.
Thanks to the indica influence, the Gelato marijuana strain only grows a short to medium height, meaning that its stature is especially suitable for those who wish to grow their own cannabis indoors. The flowering period is pretty short: around 8-9 weeks. The yield can vary depending on a lot of various factors, including your experience as a grower. Overall, Gelato is a great strain for indica lovers who don’t want to feel groggy or lethargic after consuming. It’s a fan favorite for its multi-faceted qualities, making it a great strain for consumption at any time of day.
