How to make infused honey

There are a few different ways to make cannabis honey, but this is possibly the most simple and easy to replicate at home. To make your own cannabis infused honey, here’s what you need:

  • A half oz – an oz of cannabis
  • 2 cups of organic honey
  • A crockpot
  • Cheesecloth
  • A mason jar
  • A piece of string

This process begins similarly to making cannabutter. First, you’ll need to decarboxylate your marijuana. Low and slow is the best for this. Preheat your oven to 225 degrees Fahrenheit. Grind your half ounce (or ounce if you want your honey super potent) into a fine powder. Try to grind it as fine as you possibly can. This will assist in even heating and assure that it fully infuses into the honey later on. Spread your ground cannabis onto a baking sheet and decarb in the oven for 40 minutes to an hour. Keep your eye on this so it does not burn.

Next, place all of the decarbed weed into the cheesecloth and tie it off securely with a clean piece of string. Place the bundle into your clean mason jar and cover with 2 cups of honey. I recommend using organic honey, but you can use whatever you have access to. Close the jar tightly and place into the crockpot with a cloth or some paper towel between the bottom of the jar and the pot. Fill the crockpot with water until the jar is covered ¾ of the way. Set your crockpot to the lowest setting possible.

Lastly, allow the honey to cook for a total of 8 hours, making sure to shake up the jar every hour or so to keep the contents moving and encourage the infusion to occur. This also relieves pressure on the jar, so it doesn’t explode. After 8 hours you can remove the jar from the crockpot. Squeeze the cheesecloth to strain the honey trapped inside. Be cautious as the jar and the cheesecloth will both be extremely hot.

That’s it! You did it! Cannabis infused honey has a long shelf life and as long as it is kept in an airtight container and stored out of direct sunlight. Cannabis infused honey can be added to pretty much any food or drink! How will you use your cannabis honey?
