I bought my first Madre cartridges when I found out my favorite cartridges weren’t in stock. That forced me to consider other options. Luckily, a brand representative from Madre gave me details about this new brand that launched on April 20, 2017. I couldn’t pass on the deal: Buy one gram ($50) and get a half-gram free. Madre’s sleek branding and packaging sealed the deal, so I went ahead and purchased a Girl Scout Cookies and Strawberry Cough cartridge.

Madre’s cartridges are available throughout California and are a welcome addition to the varied selection of pre-filled vape oil cartridges in my local dispensaries. Madre’s packaging stood out to me because of its eco-friendly and leaf-inspired design. I, especially, enjoyed the design choice to include a wood tip with the glass cartridge. Wood tips are chosen for their soft texture and cooling capabilities after heating the tank.

The Strawberry Cough sativa blend had a rich and fruity strawberry aroma. Madre descrives this strain as a “potent sativa blend great for managing social anxieties and balancing stress.” I definitely felt energized and focused after taking a few berry-flavored hits. Best of all, it has a decent THC level of 74.03%, as well as 0.25% CBD and 1.77% CBN. Strawberry Cough provides a pleasant mind buzz and a burst of euphoria.

The half-gram of the Girl Scouts Cookie cartridge was refreshingly minty and had subtle earthy notes. Madre describes this strain as “perfect for patients looking for relief from severe pain or nausea.” I don’t suffer from severe pain or nausea, but I felt supremely relaxed after taking a few draws from the GSC cartridge. This cartridge contains 70.02% THC, 0.35% CBD, and 1.92% CBN. I enjoyed the balanced effects of this popular hybrid strain.

Madre uses carbon dioxide (CO2) extraction techniques to remove therapeutic cannabinoids like THC, CBD, and CBN and infuse them into 500 or 1,000 mg cartridges. Apart from the strains I bought, they also have other Sativas (Maui Wowie, Sour Tangie), Hybrids (Rosewater, Sangria 1:1), and Indicas (Watermelon Kush, Blueberry, Gorilla Glue #4, Holy Grail). Sometimes, they’ll release limited editions strains like Pumpkin Spice Latte.

Overall, I really enjoyed the flavors of the Girl Scout Cookies and Strawberry Cough strains. I’m excited to give their other limited edition strains a try like Hemp-Derived CBD (Jasmine Green Tea and Zen) or Honey Lavender. In terms of flavor, they aren’t too overwhelming or too subtle. The wood tip was also a nice touch to an already sleek cartridge. For those looking for the best bang for their buck, go with Madre’s premium oil cartridges.
