How to make medicated Rice Krispies

Rice Krispies are a childhood treat near and dear to many of our hearts. This recipe spices up the classic treat by infusing it with homemade cannabutter and a few other sweet and salty additions that’ll make this an awesome sweet treat to take on the go. Make these medicated Rice Krispies for your next camping trip and enjoy the relaxation underneath the starry night sky or by the fire with some friends and family. This recipe only uses a few ingredients and requires just a microwave and an oven among a few other simple tools. Let’s get started!

CANNABUTTER RECIPE

For the cannabutter you’ll need:
1 stick of unsalted butter
7g of cannabis
A cheesecloth
A mesh strainer
A mason jar (optional)

To make your own homemade cannabutter, first melt one stick of unsalted butter in a saucepan on medium heat. While this is happening, use a grinder or food processor to break up your chosen strain of cannabis. 7 grams should be enough to evenly distribute throughout the batch of Rice Krispies. You won’t be using the entire stick of butter in the recipe, so you’ll have extra cannabutter you can save for future recipes. You can also double the Rice Krispies recipe and use more cannabutter to increase the dosage of your treats if you’d like.

Once your bud is ground up, spread it out evenly onto a sheet pan and decarb it in a 275-degree oven for 15-30 minutes or until golden and fragrant. The time will depend on your oven but low and slow is the best. Be careful not to burn your marijuana or you’ll destroy the THC and all the terpenes that you’ll want to keep in order for your cannabutter to be effective. Stay close by and use your nose as an indicator. If your kitchen begins to smell like you just smoked an ounce in it, that usually means it’s ready.

After you decarb the weed, add it into the saucepan of melted butter and turn the heat down to a simmer. Allow this to infuse for at least 45 minutes, stirring constantly. Again, be careful not to burn this! The butter will take on the green color of the cannabis as well as the flavor of whatever strain you’re using, so make sure it’s a tasty one!

Once it’s done infusing, strain this through a cheesecloth over a mesh strainer set over a mason jar or measuring cup. Be sure to squeeze every drop of cannabutter we worked so hard for from the cheesecloth! The cheesecloth will be hot so be careful. Save your cannabutter in a mason jar or airtight container and set in the fridge until you’re ready to use it.

RICE KRISPIES RECIPE

For the Rice Krispies you’ll need:
10 oz of marshmallows
3 cups of pretzels
2 cups of puffed rice cereal
1 cup caramel sauce
1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/4 cup of cannabutter
A sheet pan
Parchment paper
Cooking spray

First, crush 3 cups of pretzels and place into a bowl. Mix 2 cups of puffed rice cereal with this and set aside. In a separate bowl, add 10 oz of marshmallows and 1/4 cup of solid cannabutter. Put this into the microwave for 30 seconds and stir. Continue heating in 30 second increments until everything is melted and thoroughly combined. Next, pour this mixture into the bowl with your pretzels and cereal and mix well. Add in 1 1/2 cups of semisweet chocolate chips and fold into the mix.

Line a sheet pan with parchment paper and spray it with cooking spray to prevent sticking. Place your Rice Krispies mix onto the lined sheet pan. Spread it out into an evenly sized rectangle. You can use your hands or a rolling pin to help you with this part. Once you have a fairly even rectangle, drizzle the caramel sauce over the top. Stick the sheet pan in the fridge for a few hours to allow the Rice Krispies to set before cutting into squares. These can be enjoyed on their own or with a glass of milk or CBD water.
